Whittier Brings Wellness to Community

Chapman recently completed a 6,600 sf state-of-the-art wellness and fitness club for the Whittier Street Health Center in Roxbury. The project included a cardio center, free weight area, and locker rooms, as well as group fitness and yoga studios. Whittier undertook this project to support their goal of fighting disease and improving life expectancy among urban residents. As part of a new approach to wellness, Whittier’s doctors are now prescribing exercise as part of their patients’ daily routines. At the nominal cost of $10 per month, more than 300 patients have joined the club in the first two weeks.

Boston Mayor Marty Walsh and City Councilor Tito Jackson led the ribbon-cutting ceremony before 200 attendees at the Grand Opening and Men’s Health Summit on June 27th. Dr. Gene Lindsey, President and CEO Emeritus of Atrius Health, delivered the keynote speech.

Troy Depeiza, the project’s architect and co-founder of DREAM Collaborative, only had positive feedback about the Chapman team and the construction process. “The team did a great job,” he said. “One of the best experiences I have had thus far working with a contractor. The owner always commented to me during the duration of the construction how he is very impressed with Chapman’s performance.” Chapman’s team, consisting of Matthew Gibbs, Bill ShompheJason Grinacoff and Bob D’Amico, was honored to work on a project that gave so much back to our community!
