On Friday June 5th, seventy-two Chapman employees headed to Rock Harbor in Orleans for our annual team-building fishing trip, the Bill Rich Memorial Challenge (BRMC). A fleet of 13 boats set sail that morning, all with high hopes of having their names engraved on the official BRMC trophy. But while the fish were plentiful that day, the keepers were not. Senior Construction Supervisor Ken Bumpus (pictured) won the largest catch award by reeling in a 40″ bass, but team Liberty, consisting of Captain Bill Shomphe, Dennis LaRosee, Chris Draper, Mick Wallace, John Hyde, and Michele Blair, took home the overall win with three bass totaling 100 inches!
Previously called the Cape Cod Challenge, this 15-year tradition was renamed in 2009 to honor Bill Rich, a beloved employee who passed away that year. Each employee who participates in the event makes a donation to the Bill Rich Fund, which benefits the Department of Children and Families (DCF), an organization close to the Rich family’s hearts. With Chapman matching all donations, this year we were able to donate a total of $3,428 to the DCF. We’re grateful to all of the employees who could participate in one of Bill’s favorite days of the year.
