Chapman’s Sustainability Scholarship Recipients

We are pleased to announce this year’s recipients of the Chapman Construction/Design Sustainability Scholarship. Brendan Halton and Allison Reynolds, both Architecture majors at Wentworth Institute of Technology, were selected out of more than a hundred students who applied for this scholarship. Applicants were asked to submit a 500-word essay on the meaning of sustainability, their view of current trends, and the future of the sustainable construction and design industry.

Brendan, a sophomore from West Sayville, New York, intends to pursue his Master’s degree in Architecture and further develop his leadership skills. Brendan describes himself as “industrious” with aspirations to be a successful architect that is part of a great team of mindful, skilled, and talented professionals. Selected for his desire to work on projects with minimal environmental impact, Brendan says “As an architect, my aim would be to reduce the use of new raw materials, and attempt to retrofit old structures to serve new needs in order to avoid unnecessary development. I can also play a major role in waste management.”

Allison, a first-year Architecture major from West Greenwich, RI, has been very involved with DECA, a nationally recognized organization known for its business opportunities and community service projects. Allison has worked as a waitress for the past four years to support her dream of becoming an architect. She says, “Being a hard worker is a characteristic all leaders should have.” Allison has always been interested in sustainable building technologies and hopes to have the opportunity to design sustainable housing.

We would like to congratulate and thank our two winners for their hard work and contributions to the industry!
